Find, Watch, Save, and Share Videos with RealPlayer Express for Windows 8

by RealPlayer on October 26, 2012

Windows 8 RealPlayer Express

Microsoft’s Windows 8 has finally arrived and with it comes an innovative way to think about how you use your computer. The new Start screen has taken a fresh approach to viewing files and apps with a graphically rich tile-based design. Keeping that in mind, we created a new RealPlayer app designed to take advantage of Windows 8, called RealPlayer Express. You can get it now for free in the Windows Store.

Finding videos to watch online can be time consuming. RealPlayer Express does the heavy lifting for you, delivering the most popular user-generated and free videos directly to the RealPlayer Express app. See a video you like in the RealPlayer Express app, but don’t have time to watch it? No problem, just bookmark the link and it will be placed in the Watch Later category.

To make it even easier to find the videos you want, RealPlayer Express features Channels dedicated to categories such as travel, education, pets, politics, and more. You can also see videos provided by a specific website such as the Huffington Post. Check out the Most Watched Videos category in any channel to see new videos daily.

Make A Splash

The RealPlayer Express app for Windows 8 delivers a fresh experience and surfaces new videos daily that you can bookmark and watch later.

Windows 8

REALPLAYER EXPRESS AND WINDOWS 8

The look and feel of RealPlayer Express shares a similar look to the tile-based design of the Windows 8 Start screen, displaying videos in both large and small tiles. Just click on a video to play it and see more options.

Since RealPlayer Express works seamlessly with the Search charm in Windows 8, it’s easy to search the web for a particular video without ever having to leave the app. Once you find the video you want, use the app to watch it instantly, or save it for later with the Watch Later functionality.

Get a closer look at what RealPlayer Express for Windows 8 has to offer in this video:

MAKE SOCIAL CONNECTIONS WITH REALPLAYER EXPRESS

Using RealPlayer Express to discover and organize online videos is just part of the fun. See a video you want to share with friends? Use the included sharing tools to share it with Facebook friends or tweet the video to all your Twitter followers. It can also be used in conjunction with social media apps such as Facebook and Twitter. The app can be used to quickly browse and view videos from Facebook friends.

Looking for some cool free apps to load on your new Windows 8 machine? Download RealPlayer Express from the Windows Store free and discover videos faster. What do you think of Windows 8 look and feel? Let us know in the comments below.

I have windows8 and I have the latest version of realplayer. It is not letting me download youtube or any videos on realplayer. I even open the web browser in realplayer and then go to the youtube site. still no luck, and the download button doesnt appear. I disabled the pepperflash in firefox, and I also tried using explorer. Still no luck! Maybe the problem is in my control settings? Help!

I purchased realplayer plus and I’m thinking about purchasing a new computer with windows 8. Will my plus account transfer and work with windows 8? also how do I transfer my very extensive music and video library to my new computer without having to make a million cds and dvds?

11 RealPlayer December 12, 2012 at 10:04 am

When you purchase your new Windows 8 computer, simply install RealPlayer for the desktop and sign-in with your RealPlayer Plus account information and you’ll have access to it. As for the videos and music, since they are saved on your computer’s hard drive have the place where you purchase your computer move all your files over from the old computer to the new computer. You can also use an online storage site such as Microsoft’s SkyDrive and upload your videos and music to it and then download them to your new computer via SkyDrive. Let us know if you need any more help.

Hi, I have Windows 8 and RealDownloader appears to be working finebut when open it’s stuck in the taskbar. I click on the icon and the window doesn’t come up so I can’t follow the progress of my downloads. Any advice?

19 Real Team January 28, 2013 at 11:44 am

Hi Craig,
Several customers are experiencing the same issue. Our support team is aware of this and working on high priority to resolve it at the earliest. However, I don’t have an ETA in this regard. Once it is fixed, you will be notified by our support team.

However please try this work around it:

1. Right click on the desktop & choose ‘Screen Resolution’ (Choose Display Properties if it is XP)
2. This would show the number of monitors available for display (Below is my set up)
3. Lower the screen resolution.
4. Tried to download the video and then right click on Task Manager and click on RealDownloader and resize it.
5. Then try to change the screen resolution to high and try to download the video.
6. Restart the computer & attempt to download a video

If you have additional questions, email us directly at help@real.com.

I downloaded RealPlayer 16 desktop version for my Windows 8 and been having series of issues.
1- freezes after 30 minutes.
2- wide blue bar covers the entire upper bar and doesn’t let me get to main menu …
3- can close it only through force close in Task Manager

Cust support not helpin, its unfortunate being loyal to this program for so many years that they force me to switch to some other programs

How can I connect my PC to my home AV? I’m a bit technically challenged BTW. I don’t seem to have an HDMI out from my HP Pavillion. RealPlayer is installed on the PC. Guessing there has to be a way…

23 Alane Jewel February 9, 2013 at 6:31 am

Hi Clay,

Your PC should have a VGA or DVI or HDMI port. Please contact your computer manufacturer to know which port is available on your HP Pavillion. You can use one of these available ports to connect your Laptop with your AV.

If HDMI port is not available in your laptop. We suggest you to contact your AV manufacturer and check whether your AV supports VGA or DVI port.

If you have additional questions, email us at help@real.com.
