Watch the PGA Championship 2012 Live Online

by Joe Kukura on August 3, 2012

Watch PGA live The last of the major PGA tournaments of the year is about to swing into action, as the 2012 PGA Championship gets underway August 9-12 at scenic Kiawah Island in South Carolina. Fans who prefer to watch PGA golf online are in luck – PGA.com is streaming the PGA Championship live online, at absolutely no charge (that’s right – no cable subscription required), on a broadband video player that offers multiple live streams of the best-known golf players in the world.

The world’s top 100 ranked golfers are scheduled to compete in the PGA Championship’s 156-player field, and that includes Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, and Rory McElroy. Woods comes in as the odds makers’ favorite, and he’s crept back up to the No. 2 spot in the official world rankings. Still, Woods hasn’t won any major PGA tournaments since a highly-publicized scandal about his private life in 2009. This year’s host course, the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island in South Carolina, has more seaside holes than any course in North America – and on most days it’s hit by brutal Atlantic Ocean wind. Golf Digest has named the Ocean Course “America’s Toughest Resort Course” because of the wind factor.

The PGA Tour is one of the most Internet-friendly of all the widely-watched sports events. All of the four major PGA championship events are streamed live online for free – the Majors, the U.S. Open, the British Open, and now the PGA Championship live online. Unlike the NBC Olympics webcast, no cable subscription is required for full access. PGA golf webcasts offer simultaneous live streams of competition on different holes, creating a dynamic digital sports watching experience.

WATCH THE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP 2012 ON PGA.com

Television viewers can watch coverage of the PGA Championship, but no way to choose which golfer they would prefer to watch. Online viewers can watch PGA live at PGA.com. They will get the PGA Championship television broadcast over the Internet and complete Thursday through Sunday coverage, with multiple streams following marquee golfers and an additional stream of just the Par 3 holes at the Ocean Course.

Watching golf tutorial videos online and practicing what you learn can help you improve your swing. Try using RealPlayer to download all your favorite online golf videos.

PGA.com only offers a live stream of the PGA Championship. You cannot watch PGA live tournament events on demand afterwards. You can, however, watch choice moments from the PGA Video Highlight Hub – a video clip database that will be continually updated throughout the tournament. You can also use it to search by player, round, or hole to watch video on demand of tournament moments you missed or want to see again.

FOLLOW THE PGA TOURNAMENTS ON iPHONE, iPAD, OR ANDROID

Free apps are available for mobile devices allowing you to watch PGA live from anywhere. The PGA Championship app for Apple iOS delivers live streaming video options to your iPhone or iPad, plus real time leaderboards and scorecards, and customizable alerts for individual players. iPad users get an enhanced mobile video player that takes full advantage of the enhanced Retina Display of the new next-gen iPad, providing a higher-resolution broadcast than you’d see on an HDTV.

Android users don’t get nearly as sweet of an arrangement. The PGA Championship 2012 app is not available for Android smartphones or tablets. The best an Android user can do is download the free PGA Tour app for Android, which offers real time statistical updates and video highlights, but no live video stream of the PGA Championship.

Are you rooting for Tiger Woods to win his first Major since the scandal, or maybe another upset victory from our quirky old friend John Daly? Is Ocean Course really America’s toughest? Let us hear about it in the comment section.

Will this be available only in US or also in Europe? Sometimes these streams are blocked by IP checks…
