RealPlayer Goes Mobile with New Android App

by RealPlayer on August 30, 2012

RealPlayer AndroidThis month marks the official launch of the mobile version of RealPlayer for the Android OS. The free application provides a centralized place to access and use the media on your smartphone. Essentially it’s an all-in-one-player for music, video, and photos complete with the ability to share your favorite media with friends via Bluetooth, email, or text messaging.

The app is loaded with all the latest music features expected including the ability to create playlists, shuffle and repeat songs, set a song as a ringtone, and headphone controls. For those who are interested in learning more about their music playing habits there’s also lastFM scrobbling included.

When selecting photos in the app, you’ll immediately see all the pictures stored on your phone. You can even manage the display order (oldest to newest and vice versa) and show the pictures as a slide show. If you’re phone can connect to an HDTV or a larger monitor, it’s a great way to share pictures from a trip with friends and family on a bigger screen.

REALPLAYER ANDROID APP OFFERS ADVANCED FEATURES

Use RealPlayer to store and manage all your videos, music, and pictures in one place on your Android smartphone.

While the free app is loaded with plenty of features, there is a version of the RealPlayer app available that has more advanced audio features that costs $4.99. The upgrade can be purchased directly from the application by pressing the menu button on the phone and selecting more options. In addition to eliminating ads, it includes quite a few advanced options for the music player.

Audiophiles will particularly be interested in the graphic equalizer and the ability to create and save custom settings. This feature can make a difference when applied to songs that typically sound tinny through the speaker on a smartphone. While those who like to have all the information possible about their music will appreciate the access to metadata like album title, track number, year the album was released, genre, and even album artwork courtesy of the Gracenote database.

Get a closer look at what the RealPlayer mobile app has to offer in this video:

USE THE MOBILE REALPLAYER APP AS AN ANDROID WMV PLAYER

Playing videos on an Android smartphone can be tricky. Consider Microsoft’s video format WMV, if you want to see those videos you need a WMV player.  Naturally, Windows Phone smartphones will easily play WMV videos, but what about Android smartphones? The good news is that you can use the RealPlayer Android app to play WMV files on your Android phone. Once you download the RealPlayer app from the Google Play Android app store, just launch it and click on videos. You will have the option to see all the videos stored on your phone and microSD card. Select the WMV video file and press play to watch it on your phone.

Another alternative to playing video formats like WMV on your Android phone is to use the free RealPlayer app (if you don’t have it just click the orange button in the top right corner of this page to download the latest version free) to convert videos stored on your computer into formats compatible with your smartphone, such as MP4.

If you haven’t already downloaded the free Android app you can get it by downloading it from the Google Play store on your phone or computer. Is this the all-in-one media player you’ve been wanting? Were you one of the thousands of people that downloaded the RealPlayer Android app while it was still in beta?

There isn’t currently a BlackBerry version of the mobile RealPlayer app. However, you can use RealPlayer software to convert the videos and then transfer them to your BlackBerry.

Hi,
Does either version have the video converter feature?

6 RealPlayer October 30, 2012 at 5:02 pm

That feature is currently not available in the mobile app.

Please add support for video playlists. Currently you can only have music playlists.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Why does RealPlayer only recognize 510 of the songs on the sd card of my tablet? I have hundreds more – maybe 32 GB.

14 Real Team March 4, 2013 at 2:14 pm

Hello Gary,

Thank you for contacting RealPlayer Customer Support.

I understand that RealPlayer does not recognize songs on SD card.

Try this steps,

Go to Settings—–> Applications—–> Select real player—–> Then set default as sd card.

If you have additional questions, let us know.

Is your android player a wmv player?

16 Real Team March 4, 2013 at 3:44 pm

Hi Sammy,

The RealPlayer application supports whatever media formats your Android phone supports, and these may vary from phone to phone.

The current version of Android does not allow you to add codecs beyond the core Android formats. Accordingly, RealPlayer (as well as all other players) can only support formats that are pre-installed on the phone.

Please consult the manual that came with your phone for more information.

For more information, please send an email to cs-googlecheckout@realnetworks.com.

You replied to Gary with
I understand that RealPlayer does not recognize songs on SD card.
Try this steps,
Go to Settings—–> Applications—–> Select real player—–> Then set default as sd card.

I have Realpalyer V1.1.3.0
There is no Set Default as Sd Card.
I assume go to setting means Android settings not realplayer Settings

So how do you load songs from SD Card??

18 RealPlayer Team March 28, 2013 at 10:34 am

Hi Ash,

Yes you have to change it in the Android settings.

Please Remove the SD card and insert it back in your phone and try changing the settings. Also you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the RealPlayer app.

If that doesn’t work, please send an email to cs-googlecheckout@realnetworks.com.

I have just upgraded RealPlayer and discovered Realplayer will not work with my Droid DNA – Seems that has more features than native Player: I was looking for an Equalizer that RealPlayer Claims to have but unable to locate it in the App. Not sure RealPlayer was built for the Droid DNA phones. I’m not concerned with video at this point – just the Audio.

20 RealPlayer Team April 1, 2013 at 12:22 pm

Hi Whitefish,

Please send an email to cs-googlecheckout@realnetworks.com Include a brief description of the issue, and copy and paste the link to this thread within the email for further assistance.
