Ask RealPlayer: Download This Video in Google’s Chrome Browser

by Real Team on August 10, 2012

UPDATED GOOGLE CHROME AND REALPLAYER, DECEMBER 11, 2012:

We have just released a new version of RealPlayer that works with Google Chrome. Please select Check for Updates in the drop-down menu in the RealPlayer app or simply click the orange button in the top right corner of this page to download and install the newest version of RealPlayer. Once the new version is installed, the Download this Video button will appear in the upper right corner of videos online.

We love hearing from users of our products. When features aren’t working the way you think they should, we want to help. That’s the idea behind Ask RealPlayer. We’re going to be providing answers to those questions straight from our product experts. Think of Ask RealPlayer as your buddy that works at RealPlayer. Please leave your questions below and we’ll address them in the comments or in our next installment of Ask RealPlayer.

Q: Why doesn’t “Download This Video” work in Google’s Chrome broswer?

A: Chrome has recently been updated. Among the few changes that were rolled out in the update, Pepper Flash has been implemented to handle Flash video. You can learn more about the decision to implement Pepper Flash in this post from Google’s Chromium blog.

As a result of the update, you may have recently started having problems with RealPlayer’s Download This Video button in the browser such as it  doesn’t appear when viewing videos in Chrome 21, or maybe you can see the button, but nothing happens when you click it, the following steps should resolve the problem. In order to fix the issue, please do the steps in both sections and close and reopen Chrome before trying the download again.

First: Disable Pepper Flash

1. Open a Google Chrome browser window.

2. In the address bar enter chrome://plugins/

3. Click the Details link in the top right corner.

4. The top entry should show three versions of Flash. Click Disable for the first one (you should see the Location listed as
C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\21.0.1180.60\PepperFlash\pepflashplayer.dll).

5. Close, restart Chrome, and try downloading a video from your favorite video site.

Second: Update your RealPlayer

Download the latest version of RealPlayer by clicking the orange button on the top right corner of the page. You can also update RealPlayer by following these steps:

1. Open RealPlayer on your computer.

2. Click the RealPlayer logo.

3. Click Check for Update.

4. Check the box next to RealPlayer.

5. Click Install Updates.

If you don’t see RealPlayer in the available updates, you most likely have the latest version.

If you’re still unable to download videos after following these solutions, please contact Customer Support or leave a comment below.

7 Rodh August 15, 2012 at 5:33 pm

8 CARL August 15, 2012 at 5:48 pm

thank you so much, but by doing the 1st witch is the 1 that worked for me. will it affect anything else im needing?

9 Jacques Thesing August 15, 2012 at 10:09 pm

I have tried all the suggestions but still not working. But maybe my problem is different. In my case looking at preferences/download & recording/webdownload & recording ONLY internet explorer 9 is shown and not Chrome. For some reason Realplayer doesn’t pick up chrome as browser. Tried everything from uninstalling to reinstalling bu to no avail.
Hope there is a solution to this problem. Thanks

10 RealPlayer August 16, 2012 at 4:38 pm

As long as you have at least one browser in the RealPlayer Download & Record Preferences it should work. Give that a try and let us know how it goes.

11 LaWanda August 16, 2012 at 2:44 am

Yes I tried everything it said to do but when I click on download nothing happens. Gruuu! I am so upset that I could scream and throw my laptop. Now what?????

12 RealPlayer August 16, 2012 at 4:36 pm

Try downloading the latest version of RealPlayer and installing it. That should fix the problem.

13 gtrobert August 16, 2012 at 5:03 pm

Done all of that, still nothing. Could it be because I am running windows 7?

14 RealPlayer August 20, 2012 at 10:21 am

You may need to verify your User Account Controls have been verified before trying to install RealPlayer. YOu can get more information about User Account Control in Windows 7 and Vista as well as directions here: https://real.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8840/kw/windows%207/p/9

it worked!!
thanks a lot!!!!!

20 Terry August 19, 2012 at 5:26 am

To start with thank you for taking the time to tell us about the pepper flash “Update”. by Chrome its good to know the problem has an outside cause if not a solution at the moment. I downloaded the latest version of Real Player yesterday [basic version as my computer doesn't have a lot of RAM and the area I live in doesn't have a high speed information telephone exchange] but. Real Player still doesn’t automatically offer me the YouTube video download as it did up to a week or so ago. The only symbol on Chrome in the right hand corner is a spanner. Clicking on this and then “Extensions” gives a “Real Player HTML5Video downloader Extension” with a enable or disable option however clicking either still does not result in a “do you want to download this video” window. I like using Chrome and would hate to be forced to use either high RAM requring Internet Explorer or the continually “updating” Firefox. Can I use the Chrome Pepper flash to download videos?

63 RealPlayer December 13, 2012 at 3:25 pm

The latest version of RealPlayer fixes the problems you’re encountering. You can download a new version of RealPlayer and install it or simply check for updates in the RealPlayer app.

64 Anonymous September 29, 2012 at 10:28 am

after the latest chrome update, the flash plug in is no longer separated into three versions. Everything is rolled into one enable/disable button. disabling pepper flash disables all flash function.

65 Jayson Frawley September 30, 2012 at 8:58 am

Performed the above steps awhile back and the problem was fixed. The problem has returned and now in the plugins page pepflash is the only option as the other 2 are not even listed anymore. Did Google change Chrome again?

66 RealPlayer October 3, 2012 at 3:02 pm

Try updating your version of RealPlayer.

67 Jayson Frawley September 30, 2012 at 9:51 am

Pepflash is now the only player available in plugins. What do we do now?

68 RealPlayer October 3, 2012 at 5:48 pm

Please try disabling Pepper-Flash by following the steps given in the link: https://real.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10000 and also try using Mozilla Firefox /Internet Explorer. If that doesn’t work, let us know so that we can help further.

69 Spider Jesus October 1, 2012 at 10:54 pm

Someone make it work in chrome 22 already! it’s been out long enough, someone damn well better be figuring it out.

70 RealPlayer October 5, 2012 at 12:00 pm

We totally understand your frustration. Chrome just did another update. Stay tuned for an update on this post. In the meantime, you can still use RealPlayer with other browsers.

78 Hh October 5, 2012 at 8:36 am

Hey there. I had updated the real player but somehow when my downloading is in progress, suddenly the real player stopped and I dont evet get to download the video. And another case, the video had finished downloaded but I cannot played the video. This is happening to me yesterday. Before this, it was okay. Help me!

79 RealPlayer October 9, 2012 at 10:23 am

Assuming that you are using Google Chrome version 22 to download the videos, Google Chrome version 22 does not currently support our Download This Video feature. Try downloading the videos using a different browser like Mozilla Firefox/Internet Explorer.

80 Hiba October 6, 2012 at 2:41 pm

87 confused October 10, 2012 at 6:05 pm

is there an email i can send an email too? or a customer service phone number? cause i can’t post my comment here and i am getting frustrated. ill try again: like i said, which didn’t seem to be posted sorry. i only have the one flashplayer, the pepperflash one. i used to have all three just like it says but it dissapeared or something i’m not sure? i used to have this same issue about every couple months and i would follow option 1 to fix it. but now theres only that one flashplayer, if i disable it, i cannot view any videos as it says i do not have a player installed, then asks me to install adobe which should already be automatically installed on chrome?? i am confused and getting to the point of frustration, i really like realplayer it’s an amazing program i use alot and it would be a shame if i can’t use it anymore. and there are no updates on realplayer for me either.

88 RealPlayer October 10, 2012 at 6:18 pm

Yes, please contact customer support by sending an email to help@real.com they will be able to give you more detailed help specific to your setup.

107 Eric Daley October 20, 2012 at 11:22 am

I’m encountering the same problem. Only difference is RealPlayer used to work on Chrome until recently. It does work on Explorer but I really don’t like using that browser as it is a big hassle. Then when I disable pepper flash, I get no video at all. What gives?

108 RealPlayer October 23, 2012 at 1:03 pm

114 RealPlayer October 23, 2012 at 1:00 pm

I performed steps one and two and still could not download…updated the Adobe Flash Player…works fine now.

118 Bluesviking October 23, 2012 at 6:58 am

Hello .. I’ve been real player + user / fan for several years now .. and am quite happy with it, but a couple of things annoy me, Number 1 I have not burned my own favorit cd .. with songs I have from cd collection min .. I get the message that I do not have the legal rights??

Why does the ONLY real player? there is no problem with Win media player etc..

Number 2. I’m pretty tired of that real player stock 2-3-4 copies of the same movie / song when I move a song in my library .. realplayer save it again ..

Is there a way and prevent real player and do it .. or a program that removes duplicates?

Regards BluesViking from Norway

127 RealPlayer October 30, 2012 at 11:47 am

Unfortunately, RealPlayer currently isn’t working with the latest update of Google Chrome. Try using RealPlayer with Firefox or Internet Explorer.

128 ronna October 30, 2012 at 9:00 am

the first step worked for me, thank u so much :)

129 Les November 1, 2012 at 9:05 am

After reinstalling Windows, I cannot get Real Player to work properly. When it starts up I get the error message “Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://www.aol.co.uk/?src=real&ncid=realplayer. Operation aborted.” Although Real Player is still there, it removes the Internet page it downloads on start-up and will not access the Internet afterwards.

I cannot get any help on the Web site because they do not give suport for the free version. Disabling the flash as mentioned above prevents video clips from working at all. I do have the latest version of Real Player and as far as I can see Real Player is included in the add-ons list to give it permission to operate when clicking on Tools/ Manage add ons in Internet Explorer. It will not give the option to download video clips in Chrome. So I can’t get it to work either in Chrome or Explorer.

130 RealPlayer November 1, 2012 at 10:14 am

Unfortunately, RealPlayer isn’t currently working with the latest version of Chrome. However, it should be working with Internet Explorer. Please send an email to help@real.com along with a description of the problems you’re having using RealPlayer with Internet Explorer so that we can better assist you.

I first had problems when I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 two weeks ago. I tried your first method and can now successfully download via Chrome, so thanks for that, but……
I cannot download directly from the Real Player itself – the download box/icon doesn’t appear at all. This is very odd, because in the past when IE or Chrome gave me problems I would type in URL in RealPlayer and download videos from there. Any suggestions as I really want the Real Playere to work properly in case I have further issues with Chrome and IE?

141 RealPlayer December 17, 2012 at 2:30 pm

Try downloading the latest version of RealPlayer. It works great with Windows 8.

143 RealPlayer November 18, 2012 at 2:29 pm

It should work in Internet Explorer. Try enabling the plug-in. It may have been disabled in an update.

144 jadhavforjesus November 15, 2012 at 9:09 am

i have tried all above but still its not working

145 RealPlayer December 17, 2012 at 2:29 pm

Try downloading the latest version of RealPlayer or updating you’re existing version. That should fix the problem.

146 Shawn November 15, 2012 at 11:42 am

Here is how to make it work with newer versions of Chrome. Chrome comes with a version of flash bundled in – it used to come with two versions bundled (an older one plus the newer Pepper). They finally removed to the older from the bundling, but like any browser, Chrome will still support a plug in installed externally.

Close Chrome. Then using Internet Explorer, go to Adobe and download the flash installer. Run that to install Adobe, then open Chrome, and follow the steps above to disable Pepper. You may need to repeat this once you get updates from Chrome too.

147 Bram November 16, 2012 at 5:53 am

The first option had been working fine until this week. Now I the button doesn’t appear at all, even though pepper flash is disabled.

148 RealPlayer November 18, 2012 at 2:26 pm

If you upgraded to the latest version of Chrome that could be the problem. Unfortunately, at this time RealPlayer doesn’t work with the latest version of Chrome.

149 Whites November 19, 2012 at 9:29 am

well, i tried the first option, and the “Download this video” button appeared again, i even could download the video, but when i try to play it, a pop-up shows and says

AutoUpdate
RealPLayer needs to download new software to play this clip

and when i click the Ok button to download the update it says

There’s no software update available that admits this content

Sorry to hear that. RealPlayer is working with Firefox in Windows 8.

173 Bishop November 30, 2012 at 7:51 pm

I found this out by mistake this morning. If you right click on the video (say, Youtube) and from menu that appears, select “Pop Out”. The video will now display in a pop out window. You can now put your mouse over the video and then the familiar Realplayer “Download Video” tab will display on the video. I’ve tried this on my HTPC, my netbook and my work computer.

174 Elderon December 1, 2012 at 9:52 am

On chrome 23, I too did not notice the download button, though I know how to fix it… I knew about the plugins stuff a while back ago, but thanks for the nice step by step and reminder. However there is another option if one wishes to do so that I didn’t see mentioned. I apologize if it was and I skimmed over it.

In chrome, just right click and do copy video URL.
Then Open up the Realplayer program and go to File-New->New Web Browser.
That opens whatever browser Realplayer has built in. Then just past the copied url into the new browser and the download button is just there and working.

Or it was for me… on chrome. Only thing is that it’s a tad slow downloading, which could be just a “basic/free” version thing. It seems to download in Real-time to the video you watch. I may upgrade after playing around with it a bit more. Just installed it less than an hour ago.

hope that helps!

195 Cyndi Fink December 13, 2012 at 5:34 pm

I just upgraded to RealPlayer 16 Plus. Very nice. It was working just fine in Chrome and then it stopped. The little “download this video” even disappeared. Why? I have no idea.

Pepper Flash is disabled. It is now and it was when it worked. I have rebooted my machine. Nothing.

This plugin is enabled in Chrome. Does it affect it? See below.
I am at a loss. Why does this happen? I have realdownloader.exe installed or at least it tells me that I do when I try to install it again.

Very nice new interface. Was working, not working now.
Please help.

215 john douglas December 29, 2012 at 5:26 pm

I’m not particularly computer nerdy, so always liked realplayer for it’s ease of use. It seems that every time there’s an update I have to spend hours trying to get the download button to re-appear. I use chrome, and in the past I’ve always eventually managed it, but this time (December 2012) I’m beaten. I’ve completely re-installed realplayer to make sure I’ve got the newest version, I’ve disabled pepper flash etc. Still nothing. Why do you keep changing it? If it ain’t broke why try to fix it ? Can someone tell me what’s wrong ? I’m getting to the point where I’m thinking ‘why bother?’ There are plenty of other downloaders out there. Using realplayer now seems to be some sort of trial, as if they don’t want people to use it !

216 Real Team January 28, 2013 at 11:15 pm

Hi John, I’m glad that you’ve enjoyed using RealPlayer and am sorry for any recent confusion. Pepper Flash is not compatible with RealPlayer 15; however, it is with the most current version – RealPlayer 16.

If you have RealPlayer 15, disable Pepper Flash
If you have RealPlayer 16, ensure that Pepper Flash is enabled

Click here for more information: : http://real-csr.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10000

You can also try the following:

3) Update Flash by downloading the latest version: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

4) Try another browser (IE, FireFox)
If none of the above help, send an email to help@real.com, so that we can help further.

Good Luck!

234 D. C. January 9, 2013 at 4:39 am

Just downloaded the latest version of Real Player. My system is OS-Windows 7 and I use mostly Firefox as my browser. After the download, the first thing I did was to make sure the download this button was enabled. I opened Real Player wet to the options list and was going to click on the Download and Recording option but it wasn’t there. What gives. This is an upgrade?!? More like a downgrade. I immediately uninstalled Real Player and installed an older version. What is the purpose of an upgrade that is a lesser version of the one I had?

235 Real Team January 27, 2013 at 3:29 pm

Sorry for any confusion. You can change the downloader preferences by following these steps:

Go to: Start Menu>All Programs>RealNetworks>RealDownloader (Opens RealDownloader)

1. Click on RealDownloader menu at the top left corner.

2. Select Preferences.

If that doesn’t help, please email us at help@real.com so that we can help further.

242 Torch January 14, 2013 at 9:13 pm

well, I may owe an appology. In my defense however, I tried everything suggested. btw I’m using ie 9 and not google chrome, just regular google. Real Player used to contain the listed items in prefernces that said Downloading and Recording. The versions I have downloaded tonight do not. I did, after uninstalling Real Player for what I thought was the last time ever, discover your company has now separated the two services into a Real Player and Real Downloader and something else I am too tired to explore tonight. So, appologies for the Greed comment. Be sure you not that this case may be similar to some of your other customer issues. The options in Real Player no longer offer Downloading and Recording. Might want to let folks know when you break apart a long time software package we have come to love. Cheers.

243 Real Team January 27, 2013 at 6:47 pm

Hi Torch, thanks for the feedback and sorry for any confusion due to the change. I can understand being frustrated.  In case you haven’t figured it out yet, you can change the downloader preferences by following these steps:

Go to: Start Menu>All Programs>RealNetworks>RealDownloader (Opens RealDownloader)

1. Click on RealDownloader menu at the top left corner.

2. Select Preferences.

If that doesn’t help, email us at help@real.com so that we can help further.

Thanks for hanging in there!

244 Laura Bordas January 14, 2013 at 11:25 pm

I am really getting tired of having to trouble shoot why realdownloader constantly crashes and will not display the download button! Come on now it has been months since this crap started. It was working just fine and tonight in the middle of an important download it has crashed and will not come back up. I am going to uninstall and reinstall it ONCE AGAIN , this making at least 9 times in the last 3 months. As of now I am hunting for a better more reliable program and will be taking many of my friends with me. The uniqueness and ease of this program could have made this an a-1 top rated most sold program but I will be damned if I will pay for something that constantly has issues. Do your techs not notice the amount of negative feed back you are getting in at least the last year? What is so hard about collaborating with the networks that support your program so everyone updates wont cause problems IF that is the reason. What a tremendous disappointment.

245 Real Team January 27, 2013 at 6:48 pm

Hi Laura, I can see that you are understandably frustrated. We are aware of the issue and our technicians are currently working on a fix. Many times, a complete uninstall and clean reinstall of RealPlayer can resolve the issue.

To do this, follow ALL the steps at this link: https://real.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8721. Be sure that you also follow the step (mentioned in the link) to delete the RealPlayer folders. Sometimes this gets missed.

After you re-install RealPlayer, make sure the RealPlayer plug-in is enabled in your web browser. Follow the instructions here: https://real.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8883.

If that doesn’t work, send an email to help@real.com so that we can help you further.

246 Frustrated January 16, 2013 at 5:49 am

How do you stop the pop up download this clip icon? It is becoming really annoying cause it pops up while I play facebook games.

247 Real Team January 27, 2013 at 7:00 pm

It’s simple! You can turn off “Download This Video” option by following these steps:

Go to: Start Menu>All Programs>RealNetworks>RealDownloader (Opens RealDownloader)

1. Click on RealDownloader menu at the top left corner.

2. Select Preferences.

3. Select “Don’t Show” (downloads are accessible again with a right click).

If that doesn’t help, send us an email at help@real.com so that we can help further.

248 ian January 18, 2013 at 7:34 pm

i have checked for updates in realplayer. where it says, ‘check box next to realplayer’, it does not show that option, just audio updates. i have realplayer basic version on windows7. i use googlechrome

249 Real Team January 28, 2013 at 10:58 am

Hi Ian, I’m not sure I completely understand your question, but let me try and help. When you have RealPlayer open, go to the upper left hand corner. Click the down arrow next to the logo. You will see an option “Check for Update”. Click that option. After you begin the process, if there are updates, you will be presented with a check box for all elements that have changed from the version you have installed. Check all boxes and select “Install”. If RealPlayer is not listed as one of the options then you already have the latest options.

If that doesn’t answer you question, please send me an email at help@real.com with more information about what you are experiencing and perhaps attach a screen shot so I can better help you.

Windows 7, and IE9 32 bit update version 9.0.12; RealDownloader appears to start (the “download box appears above video, I click it and the Downloader window opens) but then after a few seconds I get an error “Real Downloader has stopped working. Windows is looking etc….” It used to work fine up until a few weeks ago.

I’ve uninstalled Real Player and re-installed 3 or 4 times now, including removing all the plugin libraries before re-installing. Everything looks ok, but the Downloader just doesn’t work any more. I’m using MSE security – all up-to-date. I also have two machines configured the similarly – it works on the other machine – the differnece is that I installed Chrome on this machine. Uninstalling Chrome doesn’t seem to fix the problem tho’.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

262 Robert February 1, 2013 at 10:19 pm

Running Windows 7 with Chrome Version 24.0.1312.57m and I get the Download button at top of videos, and when I click it, the download starts (can see RealDownloader running in the task bar) and if I mouse over the RealDownloader icon in the task bar it shows a preview of the downloader window that shows the video is downloading, and in fact if I look at the download folder, the video is being downloaded there. The problem is there is no downloader window running on the desktop that one can use to manage the downloads in real time. If I click on the taskbar preview for that app window, nothing happens. Anyone else have this problem?

263 Real Team February 3, 2013 at 8:10 pm

Hi Robert, I understand that you are unable to see the RealDownloader window on the desktop.

Please be informed that we do have an reported issue and many of our customers are facing the same issue. Our technicians are working on it. Once the issue is resolved you will get an email from RealPlayer.com

However please try this work around:

1. Right click on the desktop & choose ‘Screen Resolution’ (Choose Display Properties if it is XP)
2. This would show the number of monitors available for display (Below is my set up)
3. Lower the screen resolution.
4. Tried to download the video and then right click on Task Manager and click on RealDownloader and resize it.
5. Then try to change the screen resolution to high and try to download the video.
6. Restart the computer & attempt to download a video

If you have additional questions, please email help@real.com with details of what you are experiencing.

264 Roger February 2, 2013 at 8:48 am

Hey, Real Team. I’m having issues with being able to download. The first “solution” you gave was not a solution at all, it has not helped in the slightest. I am able to see the button; however, it does not work. It does not load the downloader, nor does it actually download anything. It was working up until the 30th of January, 4 days ago. Now, it does not.

I did a complete uninstall and reinstall of RealPlayer, and have even tried downloading videos in RealPlayer’s Web Videos player, it still does not work.

If you guys would not mind giving me a solution of some sorts, that would be nice.

265 Real Team February 3, 2013 at 8:07 pm

Hi Roger,

You can try running the RealDownloader in administrator mode.

1. Click on Start
2. Select All Programs
3. Click on RealNetworks
4. Right Click on RealDownloader
5. Select Properties.
6. Click Compatibility tab on the top
7. Check Run As Administrator
8. Click Apply and OK.

If the issue still persists, please send an email to help@real.com. So that we can help you further.

274 Kevin Greene February 8, 2013 at 7:04 am

I have lots of Youtube videos ( flash videos) downloaded and stored in Realplayer. I can no longer play them as a red circle with a diagonal line inside it appears against each one of them. I recently upgraded to Realplayer 16. Is this the reason? My system is Windows XP with IE8. Can you help me, please?

275 Alane Jewel February 10, 2013 at 7:14 pm

Hi Kevin,

When you play or import files into RealPlayer, it creates a list of those files in your Library. This list remains the same until you import or play more clips. If you move, rename, or delete any clips, they’ll still appear in the list, but RealPlayer will display a red X symbol in front of the name of each clip it cannot find.

Try the steps provided given below to resolve this issue:

1) Delete the clip references from RealPlayer:

2) Import them by following:

https://real.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8702.

If you have additional questions, please email us at help@real.com.

276 Alane Jewel February 12, 2013 at 8:36 am

Hi Ted, I understand you would like to know more about the charges.

On checking in your account information, I can see that you have purchased RealPlayer15 under the e-mail address “tedster1969@sbcglobal.net.”

When you originally purchased RealPlayer Plus, you purchased version 15, which was a one-time charge. With that purchase, you received updates and support of that version for no additional fees or hidden charges. We are now offering RealPlayer Plus version 16. This is a new product with new features. You can continue to use your current version without charge. If you want the latest version with the additional features, it requires a purchase.

In case if you have updated to RealPlayer v16 and lost plus feature, you can very well rollback to previous version by using the download link below.

http://cache-download.real.com/free/support/win/15/RealPlayer.exe

Please uninstall the current version before redownloading the older version; sign in after downloading and launching the older version.

If you have additional questions, email us at help@real.com.

277 Jerman February 13, 2013 at 8:51 am

Just wanna ask a question, why when i am downloading a movie, it will stop halfway and saying that unable to download. When I click on the retry button it will continue. But after sometimes, the ‘unable to download’ word will appear again and again. And sometimes I click retry it will start from the beginning. This happens quite frequent. Can someone help me with my problem? Thanks.

278 Real Team February 13, 2013 at 2:49 pm

Hi Jerman,

Please be informed that you can download all unprotected online streaming videos using RealPlayer. However, we respect copyright protection hence if the video is protected with copyrights then RealPlayer cannot download it.

279 Joe February 13, 2013 at 6:34 pm

I have tried disabling Pepper Flash, and disable it, close the browser, reopen, still no download button. And usually when I re-check it, Pepper Flash is still Enabled; it’s as if when I make the change it doesn’t save it. I have tried re-downloading Real Player v16 – and I am a paying customer, I’m not using the free verson – though I wish I were from the results I’m getting. It doesn’t appear to work in Opera either. I uninstalled Firefox – turns out I had a virus – “Program Files (x86)\BabylonToolbar\BabylonToolbar\1.5.3.17\Babyl onToolbarApp.dll a variant of Win32/Toolbar.Babylon application” – fixed that by running ESET online scanner, quarrentine, delete. Still doesn’t work.
Any thoughts?

Hi Team,

I use the basic real player. I have tried all the above, I have also uninstalled real player and have downloaded again from your website. Even though it shows real player 16 on your website, when I downloaded it, the file version states- 4.6.017 is it the latest 16th version?

After I installed it, the problem is still not solved. On google chrome the download icon is not appearing. And it crashes when I open youtube. I checked chrome://plugins/ and it shows below are Enabled:

RealNetworks(tm) RealDownloader Chrome Background Extension Plug-In (32-bit) – Version: 1.3.0.208

Hello Mario,

Performing a clean uninstall and reinstall of RealPlayer can help you resolve many issues, try uninstalling and reinstalling RealPlayer by following this link:

https://real.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8721

Make sure you delete the RealPlayer folders as mention in the link before reinstalling RealPlayer.

After installing RealPlayer 16 you don’t need to disable the Pepper Flash plug in in Google Chrome.

If that doesn’t help, send an email to help@real.com to assist you further.

283 Matt February 15, 2013 at 9:55 pm

Hey guys. I figured out how to fix the Realdownloader button, at least for me. If the button doesn’t do anything, go into the task manager, go into processes and look for recordingmanager.exe. Then end that process. After that you should be able to download videos again.

284 Leah February 16, 2013 at 8:32 pm

I use Google Chrome. Just re-downloaded realplayer and real player downloader and converter after not having used it in awhile. It worked great the first day for downloading videos from Youtube. Several hours later, though, the download button appeared in the upper right corner of the video, but when I click on it, nothing happens. I disabled pepper flash and downloaded recommended flash players updates, but it still doesn’t work. Help!

285 Real Team February 17, 2013 at 9:59 pm

Hi Leah,

343 jonald March 29, 2013 at 10:56 am

Ok guys let me share. I was pissed up when the real player “download video” didn’t appear on the top of any videos in Chrome. But in Internet explorer doesn’t have any problem at all only in Chrome. So I didn’t stop until I found the right solution.

You don’t have to do the steps noted above it wasn’t working on me. Don’t disable any plugins in Chrome especially any flash plug in.

All you have to do is this.

1st step – Open your real player and check for the updates. Go to >> File or click Real player logo, then >> Click references then>> check updates. (Note: I don’t know exactly the lay out of the old version because right after i updated it the lay out had changed.) Just find any ways to update it.

2nd step – After you click the update, the new window appear ( it might ask for administration acess, just accept it) . Now you can see the choices to update. Those are multimedia plug-ins
just click and check the empty box of every choices Examples: 1. ProducerSDK for RealAudio Lossless
2. RealAudio 2.0 Codec Plugin.

Click Install.

3. Step 3- After the installation finish, Go back to chrome browser and you will a new notification plugins. Just click in then enable it. If you can’t see it, just go to Chrome://plugins, from there enable the new real player plugins.

4. Step 4 – Close the Chrome browser, There you are the download video will appear on any videos you will visited. Sometimes if it doesn’t show you have to refresh and refresh the window until the “Download video” appear.

Hope it will work on you guys.

Current installations: Google Chrome 26.0.1410.43 m; RealPlayer 16.0.1.18

RealDownloader NEVER SHOWS in maximized view, or any visible view.

When cursor hovers over RealDownloader toolbar icon, ONLY SOMETIMES does the THUMBNAIL of the window show. But it has never maximized from the time I installed it several weeks ago.

Your once reliable RealDownloader has become all but useless. Any suggestions?

347 RealPlayer Team April 2, 2013 at 10:46 am

Hi David,

Please follow the steps below:
1. Open Windows Task Manager
2. Click Applications tab
3. Right click on “Realdownloader” & select “Maximize”
This will open Realdownloader in full screen mode
4. Resize “Realdownloader” by scrolling the mouse to either the Bottom Left or Bottom Right and adjust the size.
5. Close program & reopen

Make sure RealDownloader’s Compatibility mode is unchecked & all options are unchecked

1) Right click on the RealPlayer icon
2) Click on propertis.
3) Click on compatibility and uncheck all the options.
4) Click apply and ok
5) Then Right click on RealPlayer and click on Run as administrator.

B) Enable Pepper Flash:

Just updated to real player 16. Tried downloading videos but the option doesn’t appear. I did notice that in chrome it wanted me to allow or deny The real player extension, on accident I X’ed ( closed the dialogue box) it out and now the extension is no longer present in chrome. So far I have uninstalled and reinstalled real player and still no luck. Any suggestions?

My Realplayer download doesn’t work in YouTube after i started using chrome. I have tried the thing above, but it still doesn’t work – i have restarted my computer several times, but nothing happens. I know I can just open Realplayer and them add a new file, but I think it takes much more time and it is easier with “Download this video”-button in the top right corner of the videos. Can you help me????

I have tried all of the solutions that I can find online and just tried this one…still no download option with Chrome. I have to switch over to Firefox (which is a hassle) whenever I find a video that I would like to download. Hi,
I’ve been experiencing problem with Real Downloader on Chrome for quite a long time now; mainly it would suddenly just crash while navigating. So I disabled the extension and i uninstalled all of Real Player from my computer and reinstalled again. But now it’s not working on any of my navigators (Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer) even though i got the message that the extension was being enabled. Specifically in Chrome i have checked that Real Downloader is enables in the chrome://plugins/ but it doesn’t appear in the extensions page (inside TOOLS); i’ve also tried dragging it there but didn’t work.
I’ve rebooted my computer but still the same.
Thank you very much for your help.

407 Gayle May 19, 2013 at 4:29 pm

Just thought I would leave a note to help others. I had problems with Realplayer Downloader not working after a system restore which should not have affected realplayer. To cut a long story, I uninstalled/reinstalled a few times; I uninstalled/reinstalled Chrome too. Nothing I did was working. I ran Registry Mechanic and Crap Cleaner; restarted the PC. In the end, I manually went through the Registry Editor and removed anything and everything that had to do with Realplayer (you need to view the binary of hundreds of keys because they are not immediately obvious). I then reinstalled Realplayer and now everything is working fine. Perhaps Real should write a program that removes all related keys for a fresh install because uninstalling leaves hundreds of legacy keys that can prevent the downloader from reinstalling in the registry.
