All I Want For Fathers Day is a Roku Digital Video Player
To My Dear Wife & New Born Son,
Okay, Fathers Day is just around the corner and dear family I’m picking up that you are still wondering what gift you could buy to celebrate me on this most important of days.
For your information, when I was a small boy, on the days leading up to Christmas, I was often found sitting under our fir tree scouring through our presents trying to find my gifts. I used to hope for a big behemoth of a parcel with my name on it. In my childlike mind big meant more expensive, big meant more important, and big meant more fun.
Times and technology have changed; you see, my love, now often the best gifts are really quite small indeed. You know that’s the surprising thing about a Roku digital video player; it’s the size of a coaster and not much taller than a pack of cards.
It’s What’s Inside a Roku Digital Video Player that Counts
Inside this little Roku box are over 500 different entertainment channels featuring a total of 100,000 plus movies and TV shows. There’s also music, sports, games, International programming, news, and we can even see photos and videos of our new son on the big screen. All of it is easy to access using the built-in Web TV software.
When it’s icy cold, and the snow is thick underfoot this winter, you won’t have to brave the elements to find our local Redbox, just so we can snuggle by the fire and watch the latest Katherine Heigl romantic comedy. We will already have it! With Roku we can download the best of Heigl right in our living room. That’s right, this small little Roku device can connect our television with web movie giants like Netflix, Hulu Plus, Crackle, and HBO. It really is the ultimate digital video player.
Everyone is doing it love, it’s been forecast that our fellow Americans will download more streaming movies in 2012 than they will watch on DVD and Blu-ray combined. It would be like having our very own Redbox in our living room; only this one takes up a lot less space.
Use Roku’s Web TV Software to Access Just About Everything Streaming on the Internet
You know how you love it when I serenade you, he jokes. The music would never end with Roku. It would be like having a virtual jukebox containing all the music we ever wanted. Our Roku would connect directly with Pandora, Mog, our favorite online radio stations, and our iTunes library.
Roku doesn’t need much either darling, just a little love and a one off payment of $50 to $100. All we need is a high-speed Internet connection of at least 1.2Mbps, but to watch live events like the NBA finals and the Super Bowl, we’ll be wanting a connection speed of 3Mbps. For the ultimate HD experience Roku recommends we have a 5Mbps connection. Good news! I jumped online and checked our Internet connection at http://www.speedtest.net and it’s plenty fast enough for Roku HD. The only other thing we’ll need is an additional HDMI cable. Even a ham-handed technophobe like your husband could set up a brand spanking new little Roku device. We simply connect our Roku digital video player to our television and our broadband and as they say at Roku… stop the dreaming and start the streaming.
Tell me I’m not dreaming. Here’s the thing you only have to buy me Roku once. It’s a one-time purchase, then it’s a done deal. Plus we can access our existing subscriptions on Netflix and Hulu Plus and watch streaming shows on the television. Want to watch one of our favorite movies, sweetheart? We can take a trip down memory lane as we browse all the old classics available on demand.
It’s not just for me. Soon our baby boy will be all grown and he would love the cartoons that we can get anywhere, anytime via our brand spanking new Roku. I promise to cut the lawn and to put the toilet seat down. Please, please buy me a Roku Digital Video Player this Fathers Day. I think you are beginning to see that Roku really is the gift that keeps on giving.
All I Want For Fathers Day Is You
A wise man once said that the future of movies and television is Internet streaming. My darling let us walk bravely into the future together as a family, let us embrace the beauty of the Internet, that vast library of entertainment, that infinite musical jukebox ready to play our song at a single touch of your fingertip.
And thus dear woman of my dreams, I am hoping that Junior will in fact be holding the future of Web TV software in his tiny little outstretched hands this Father’s Day. Oh my dearest Roku… all I want for Fathers Day is you.
Dear readers, do you think this love letter will convince my wife to buy me a Roku for Fathers Day? Feel free to leave comments to help me convince them!

I don’t see how she could refuse you! And did you get paid by Roku for this post? If you didn’t, you should. I’ve never heard of it, but I now want one too:)
Thanks Pauline,
Roku is one of life’s special treasures, a technology tardis. I don’t see how she could ever refuse me either as I am pretty good looking and a great father. This is an unbiased write up… I don’t know the people at Roku yet 😉
will this work with old TV?
I donot have HMDI connection in my TV?
Can I view you tube or not?
Can any one reply me ?
Hey buddy,
You can use a Roku HD with an older TV which has composite inputs (red, white, yellow) and it works great.
Thanks Geoff
Thanks Gerff for reply.
What about “utube” ?
Will I able to watch this on ROKU or not ?
Please reply
i would love to buy it but it is too late :(. Father’s day is about to start.
Enough for the needs of the programs we watch on television the past, but now increased. Looking for different things so they’ll want to get together. It remains insufficient to meet normal televisions. Naturally, we need this type of devices. And unrestricted content, taking a single device. I’m a daddy, but it was not me who gave this device.
It can be tricky. TheNowhereMan has developed a private channel that allows you to access Youtube videos straight from your Roku. It’s as simple as linking your box to the Roku.com website and entering a Private Channel code. He has full instructions and the code at his site. Google him.
Very cool… greater flexibility for watching content is super important
